If you’ve stayed with us before, you might do a double take the moment you turn onto West Mystic Avenue. The old mailbox, the one that had clearly weathered countless decades of salty air, summer sun, and nor’easter rain, has officially retired. In its place: a decorative mailbox in a distinctive, signature shade of blue. Consider it our humble love letter to the neighborhood, and a practical little welcome for you.
Here’s the quick geography, because Mystic likes to keep things charmingly quirky. Technically, our address is: 102 School St., Mystic, CT 06355. But our driveway and front entrance are actually located just around the corner on West Mystic Avenue. When you’re approaching, continue towards the end of the avenue where the pace begins to feel a touch more coastal-calm. Near the very end sits our front walkway, your path to Maxson House.
At the end of that walkway you’ll now spot the new mailbox and its bright white post embellished with prominent address numbers. It’s meant to be a guide, an indicator, a beacon: the “you’re finally here” moment after a day of winding roads and playlists. In a town where homes can tuck behind privet hedges and hydrangeas, better visibility matters, especially if you arrive after dusk.
It’s also a helpful point of reference once you’ve settled in. If you’re meeting a friend for a stroll, calling a rideshare, or expecting a delivery, “the blue mailbox at the end of the walkway” is an easy, unmistakable landmark. No second guessing, no circling the block, just an arrival.
Our high-impact afternoon project was equal parts handywork and satisfaction: unbolting the well-worn, oxidized old box; setting the new post true; and installing a new mailbox that’s durable, stylish, and built to last in any season. It’s not just form over function. A letter arriving in the post deserves a proper landing place, and you deserve an easy landmark when you’re finding the house for the first time.
So, when you pull up, look for the striking blue mailbox contrasted against our lush green landscaping. Follow the proverbial walkway and take a deep breath. Vacation starts in small ways, sometimes with something as simple as a fresh coat of color and a clear sign that you’ve made it.
